The Edina Fire Department used a new fire fighting device for the first time Tuesday on a kitchen fire.  The device is thrown close to the fire releasing a non-toxic chemical that helps cool the fire, slowing the growth of flames.

Each device costs nearly $1000 dollars, but the Edina Fire Department says it saves money in potential water damage, and could help save lives by preventing the spread of flames which could potentially weakening structures crews need to enter.
