Many communities will be celebrating Veterans Day this weekend and next week. Here are some local events where you live:

Apple Valley High School to Honor Veterans: The third annual Veterans Day Recognition Assembly at Apple Valley High School will take place at 9 a.m., Nov. 12, at the Apple Valley High School Main Gymnasium.

Brooklyn Park Community Center: 'Honoring Our Veterans Through the Arts' will go from 2-5 p.m., Nov. 11. A special program will begin at 3 p.m. Call 763-493-8333 for more information.

Cottage Grove Park to Honor Veterans: Wolfpack cadets will honor military veterans Nov. 9, at their sixth annual Veterans Day ceremony. Veterans and distinguished guests are invited to attend a reception prior to the ceremony. The reception begins at 9:30 a.m. and eds with an assembly of veterans at 10:15 a.m. Observances end at 5 p.m. when the Wolfpack cadets participate in a flag-folding ceremony at the flagpole in front of Park High School.

Cottage Grove Elementary: Veterans and community members can attend Cottage Grove Elementary's celebration of veterans and other service members at 8:30 a.m., Nov. 12. Call 651-768-5800 for more information.

Eden Prairie We Salute Our Veterans Program: People can honor veterans from all branches of the service and POWs at 10 a.m., Saturday, at Grace Church in eden Prairie. Ret. Lt. General Gerald Boykin will speak.

Hastings: You can attend a ceremony at 10 a.m., Sunday, at 1200 E. 18th St. Auditorium. Maj. Kent Porter of the Minnesota National Guard will speak.

Luverne: The program will start at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, at the Minnesota Veterans Home- Luverne. There will be musical entertainment from F.R.O.G.S. (Four Really Old Guys Singing), and SFC Rob Newman of the Luverne National will speak.

Minneapolis: The 7th District VFW-sponsored program will start at 2 p.m., Sunday, at the Minnesota Veterans Home- Minneapolis (5101 Minnehaha Avenue South, Building 15 Auditorium). Larry Shellito, commissioner Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, will greet, State Representative Bob Dettmer will speak and Copper Street Brass Quintet will provide musical entertainment.

Shoreview Community Center: Local veterans can get in for free at the Shoreview Community Center Sunday. Military ID is required. Call 651-490-4790 for information.

St. Cloud Veterans Day Parade: All area veterans, active duty military, reservists and National Guard members are encouraged to march in the parade at 3 p.m. Sunday.

White Bear Lake Veterans Day Observance: Retired U.S. Navy Seal Kevin Blake will speak at the event starting at 2 p.m., Sunday, at St. John in the Wilderness Cemetery (intersection of White Bear Avenue and South Shore Boulevard). Call Reverend Mark Kelm at 651-429-5351 for information.

Winona Veterans Day Vigil 20th Anniversary: A 24-Hour Vigil starts at midnight, Nov. 11 and a ceremony commences at 11 a.m., Nov. 11, at Winona Veterans Memorial Park.

Wayzata: The first annual Veterans Day Salute will go from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 11, at Heritage Park in Wayzata (Wayzata Blvd and U.S. Highway 101)

Bloomington: The Mall of American and Nickelodeon Universe will provide four free passes to Nickelodeon Universe to families of service members from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nov. 11. The day-long event will also feature a place for mall guests to sign cards for the American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes program, children’s coloring area and free CPR compression training from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Richfield: Best Buy employees at the Best Buy headquarters in Richfield, Minn., will observe Veterans Day early by packing more than 3,500 holiday gifts for troops from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Nov. 9. Call 612-730-1984 for information.
