Rainbow Foods has closed its Forest Lake location, leading to 59 layoffs, according to a letter sent to the state Department of Employment and Economic Development.

The store, located at 289 S.W. 12th St., was scheduled to close Wednesday, and the latest date of employment for the whole store is scheduled for Saturday.

According to the federally-required Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act letter, the shutdown is permanent and will affect approximately 59 workers.

“This is not a happy decision for us,” Chief Human Resource Officer Jessie Terry wrote in the letter. “We are grateful to all of our employees for their many contributions to the business.”

Rainbow Foods is owned by Wisconsin-based Roundy’s.
