You may start noticing something hairy about Columbia Heights Police Officers.
Thursday was the first day of November – a month affectionately known as Movember thanks to a moustache-growing charity event that raises money for men’s health.
Dozens of Columbia Heights officers are keeping their upper lips warm this month to raise awareness for men’s cancer organizations – specifically prostate and testicular cancer.
The statistics are alarming – one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime, and 24 percent of men are less likely to go to the doctor compared to women.
Officers will be allowed to wear mustaches and neatly-trimmed bears during November if they are pledging to raise money for the cause. Almost $1,000 has been raised so far, and pledges are still coming in, according to the police department.
