People in New York and New Jersey are still facing multiple fronts in the effort to recover from Superstorm Sandy.

Most pressing is the need to find housing and get power turned back on for people hardest hit by the storm.

Those tasks are more important as colder temperatures set in and a new storm threatens the area on Wednesday.

State officials took steps to give displaced people the opportunity to vote in Tuesday's elections. In counties declared emergency zones, voters can fill out an affidavit ballot at any polling place they can reach.

Sandy killed more 100 people in 10 states but hit New Jersey and New York hardest. A week after the storm slammed the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast, more than 1 million homes and businesses remain without power.
