A Maple Grove resident is in Washington, D.C. today to celebrate the reading of the names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Wall. He is reading the name of his best friend.
There are 58,282 names on the wall, honoring the Americans who died in the Vietnam War. More than 2,000 people from across the country will participate at the reading of the names, It starts at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7. It takes 65 hours, across four days, to read all the names. Volunteers will read names for approximately eight hours from 4 p.m. on November 7 to 12 a.m. on November 8. Participants will then read the names for 19 hours daily from 5 a.m. until 12 a.m. on November 8, 9, and 10.
