There is an election story taking shape in the Alexandria area that proves how important each vote can be.
Just one vote is the difference between Republican Mary Franson and Democrat Bob Cunniff.
With 100 percent of the precincts reporting Franson is in the lead for Minnesota's House District 8B with 10,652 votes. Cunniff has 10,651 votes.
According to state law, if the count remains less than or equal to .5 percent once the results are certified, it will automatically trigger a recount.
A second race for a state Senate seat in the Northfield area, has Democrat Kevin Dahle leading Republican Mike Dudley by 82 votes out of more than 41,000 cast.
Neither race will affect legislative control. Democrats took control of both chambers in Tuesday's election.
