Assistant Chief Janee´Harteau is poised to be the first female police Chief in Minneapolis.
She started with the department in 1987 and has worked on the street in north, south and downtown... and has served in the narcotics and organized crime units.
She says she learned the most about police work on the streets.
"I learned the most about being a good officer on the beat because I got out of the squad car and eliminated the barrier between myself and whoever was the suspect or the victim at the time."
Harteau's nomination still has to be approved by the Minneapolis City Council later this month.
She is scheduled to be sworn in Dec. 4.
