On Black Friday it was all about the big retailers, but today consumers were encouraged to shop local and home-grown for Small Business Saturday.
The campaign was created as a marketing ploy two years ago. Since then, it has kept growing.
Surveys show about two-thirds of consumers said they would patronize small businesses this year, compared to about 44 percent last year.
They planned to spend an average of about $100 each.
