Blue Earth County deputies say two children could be in danger after their mother kidnapped them from the foster home where they were living.

The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office is leading a search effort for 21-year-old Reina Marie Gandarilla.

A national alert was sent out Wednesday morning to try to find the two children and Gandarilla.

For the last several weeks the family had been living in what's called Whole Family Foster Care in Pemberton, Minnesota.

That's when the mother lives with the foster children in the home.

Gandarilla told the foster parents she was taking 2-year-old Isiaah and 4-month-old Iyanna to the doctor, but she then disappeared – taking everything with her.

The sheriff’s office is concerned for the kids’ safety. While they can’t technically call this an Amber Alert situation, they are considering it a kidnapping.

Police and volunteers searched around Mankato until 2 a.m. Tuesday and resumed the search at 7 a.m. Wednesday.

They think Gandarilla could be headed to Chicago, which is where she’s from. Deputies say she doesn’t own a car.
