The NCAA Division II Volleyball playoffs begin this weekend at Concordia-St Paul's home gym - the Gangelhoff Center. With five straight NCAA titles behind them, the Bears are chasing a historic sixth Championship this season.
The Bears five straight titles already stand as all-times mark for NCAA Division II Championships, either consecutive or overall. A sixth straight this year - if it happens - would match Division III Washington University's all-division record for consecutive titles set from 1991 to 1996.
Ranked #1 in NCAA Division II at the start and finish of the regular season, the 27-4 Bears host the three-round NCAA Central Region tournament at the Gangelhoff Center on campus in St Paul this weekend. They open Thursday night, and would advance to Friday's semifinal and Saturday's championship with successive wins.
Concordia brings a 30-game NCAA postseason match win streak into the weekend. Their last loss was in the Central Region Final in 2006.
Despite their string of success, the regional tournament is no cakewalk. Possibly the most loaded regional field ever in Division II, six of the nation's top eight teams and eight of the top sixteen are part of the field in St. Paul this weekend.
