A suspect was charged in Wednesday's South Minneapolis officer-involved shooting.
According to Minneapolis Police, 22-year-old David Tsehai Embaye of Minneapolis was charged with three counts of assault in the first degree and a felony count of prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
Police say Embaye ran from the scene as they were responding to shots fired around 11 p.m. Wednesday, in the area of 37th Street East and Elliot Avenue South.
When officers arrived, they saw a suspicious vehicle leaving the area, so they conducted a traffic stop. Police say Embaye ran from the scene, leading to a chase.
Police say Embaye was shooting at officers as he ran, so four officers shot back and hit him. Embaye was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and is expected to survive.
No officers were hurt, but they’re all on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure. The Three officers are Officers Walter Alvarado, Omar Foulkes and Brandon Kitzerow.
Embaye is still being treated and is under guard at HCMC.
