Janee Harteau will take the top rank at the Minneapolis Police Department.
Mayor R.T. Rybak nominated Harteau as the next Chief of Police.
The City Council voted unanimously Friday in favor of that decision.
Harteau is the first woman to lead the Minneapolis Police Department.
She says she already has changes in mind moving forward.
"Over the next couple months we're really looking at structural changes... really getting the right people in the right places to move forward in what I think is a really incredible plan for the City of Minneapolis," said Harteau.
Harteau officially replaces former chief Tim Dolan next Tuesday.
