All eyes are focused on Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak. Political observers are closely watching Mayor Rybak's next move: will he seek a record fourth term as Minneapolis Mayor?
If Rybak decides to do something away from City Hall there are some familiar and some surprising names surfacing as possible candidates in the 2013 Mayor's campaign. Most of the candidates say they will not run if Rybak decides to seek re-election.
Minneapolis City Councilmember Betsy Hodges filed campaign finance papers and publicly stated she will only run for Mayor if Rybak doesn't. Fellow City Council member, Gary Schiff, says he will decide within the next month whether he will run for the top job at City Hall.
And, former City Council President Jackie Cherryholmes tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS she is "seriously considering a run for Mayor, but only if Mayor Rybak chooses not to run." And, sources tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS there are some people in the Democratic Party who are encouraging former Minnesota House Speaker, Margaret Anderson-Kelliher to join the race. Our attempt to reach Anderson-Kelliher for comment was unsuccessful.
A spokesperson for Mayor Rybak told us he will make a decision on his future before Jan. 1.
