An Albertville woman is sentenced to a year and a day in prison for stealing from the bank where she worked.
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says Kelly Jo Bistodeau, 53, was sentenced Thursday for stealing more than $187,000 from the First National Bank of Elk River. She worked in the bank's Hassan branch.
She pleaded guilty to aggravated forgery and eight counts of theft by swindle.
The county attorney's office had sought a 25-month sentence, arguing the Bistodeau had carried out a sophisticated scheme for at least seven years and the $187,000 was only the amount that could be charged under the five-year statute of limitations.
In his victim impact statement, bank president and chief executive officer John Houlton said it appears Bistodeau stole more than $300,000, the attorney's office says.
A Hennepin County District Court judge said that Bistodeau had shown her remorse and had paid $187,000 in restitution to the bank.
