The project to build a new Brooklyn Park Library has moved a step further.

The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners has approved a contract with Hammel Green and Abrahamson, Inc. (HGA) for  architectural and engineering services for the new library.

If the County Board approves the project after the first phase of the design process, construction could begin in the spring of 2014—with a grand opening in the summer of 2015.

The new Brooklyn Park Library will be located near the intersection of 85th Avenue North and West Broadway on property purchased from North Hennepin Community College (NHCC). The new library, estimated to be about 38,000 square feet—more than twice the size of the current building.

The current Brooklyn Park Library will continue to serve the community during the planning process and construction. Shortly before the grand opening in 2015, the library on Zane Avenue North will close to prepare for the move to the new library.
