Duluth Police are investigating a theft problem at a winter sports hotspot.

According to KSTP's sister station WDIO, snowboard thefts are a bigger issue at Spirit Mountain this year, than last year.

With the season less than two weeks old, Spirit Mountain Director Renee Mattson calls the thefts "disheartening."

Mattson says there are usually only one or two thefts at the beginning of the season.

At this point, details on how many snowboards have been stolen have not been released. Mattson says at least one arrest has been made.

Staff at Spirit Mountain are asking snowboarders to lock up their gear.
