Thousands of Minnesotans could run out of unemployment benefits on Saturday.

It could happen if Congress doesn't renew a program giving extra aid to people who have used up their six months of state unemployment.

If congress lets the benefits expire, it could save the federal government $30 billion. However it would leave more than 12,000 Minnesotans without benefits.
