Christmas Twisters Not So 'Rare'

A number of tornados broke out in the south this Christmas.

Some reports say they are pretty rare, however KSTP Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas says that is not the case.

"There have been 10 other tornado outbreaks in the southern US since 1964," said Yuhas.

He noted the active years in the 1970s.

"MN has had tornadoes every month except Dec, Jan, Feb but Iowa and Wisconsin have had them every month of the year including January. Last year on this date it was a record 52 in MSP," said Yuhas.

Tornados were reported from Alabama to Texas. The Christmas Day storms are being blamed for at least six deaths now.
