Prior Lake plungers are preparing for another year and another jump into icy waters for a cause.
This year's Prior Lake Polar Bear Plunge is at Sand Point Beach on Feb. 16 and starts at noon. The Plunge is put on by Minnesota law enforcement and benefits Special Olympics Minnesota.
Those interested in taking the plunge can register on the Polar Bear Plunge website. Potential plungers can register as individuals or in teams.
Plungers will need to check-in at the Plunge site on the day of the event.
The Special Olympics Minnesota is encouraging participants to wear eye-catching and one-of-a-kind costumes on Plunge day. You’re also going to need your own shoes and towel.
A minimum of $75 raised is needed if you’re hoping to plunge.
According to Special Olympics Minnesota, since the first plunge in 2009, 953 plungers have participated and $185,971 have been raised.
Last year there were 434 plungers who raised $76,431. The first year of the plunge there were 30 people who took the risk and plunged into icy waters.
