Police were called to the Coon Rapids McDonald’s after employees say a possible drunk driver was in the drive-thru.
Officers responded around 1:16 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, to the restaurant on the 11300 block of Foley Boulevard. They found the driver in a parking spot reserved for pending drive-thru orders with several of his windows rolled down.
The driver was identified as 31-year-old Matthew John Matheny of Annandale. According to the criminal complaint, he had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol.
While the officer was checking Matheny’s registration, Matheny allegedly ran from the vehicle. Other officers responded and were able to catch him.
Matheny failed field sobriety tests and register a blood alcohol content of .23. He was previously convicted of felony DWI refusal on Nov. 2, 2007.
Matheny has been charged with two counts of first degree DWI and fleeing a peace officer. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison and $14,000 in fines on each DWI charge and up to 90 days in prison and $1,000 in fines for fleeing a peace officer.
