A major fire burned two business in the 5300 block of Lyndale Avenue South in Minneapolis.

The fire started just before 6 p.m. Thursday. It took more than 30 firefighters an hour-and-a-half to contain the flames, largely because of the extreme cold freezing up their hoses.

No one was inside the building by the time firefighters arrived.

Bill Graham owns the building and also ran an equipment rental shop inside. He spent 12 years growing it into his livelihood. It, and the neighboring pizza shop, were popular neighborhood stops, and both are now devastated.

Fire officials say one firefighter was treated at Hennepin County Medical Center for injuries due to a fall. The firefighter was released around 10 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
