A late night crash sent two people to the hospital Saturday, including a Minnesota State Trooper.

Authorities suspect alcohol was involved in the crash that happened around 10:30 p.m. on the 494 on-ramp at Interstate 35W in Richfield.

Authorities say two state patrol vehicles were on the scene with lights flashing for a different crash when the driver, Maurice Blevins, 39, of Edina, hit the squads. He was arrested Saturday night for criminal vehicular operation.

According to the police report, Blevins sideswiped one squad car and then rear-ended a second state patrol vehicle.

Trooper Allen Thill, 39, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released.

One passenger in Blevins' vehicle was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A third person suffered minor injuries.

The trooper whose vehicle was sideswiped was not injured.

Blevins is being held in the Hennepin County Jail awaiting formal charges.
