It seems as though a lot of Minnesota teams are trying to break a losing streak these days, and the Gopher women’s basketball team was trying to break its too, but couldn’t.
The team tried to break a three-game streak when they hosted Illinois Monday night, and just couldn’t come out on top, even with a strong performance from sophomore Rachel Banham.
Banham scored 37 points and nabbed her 1,000th-career point, which was the third fastest in history to reach that status.
Gophersports.com reported that Banham became the 21st Gopher, and third sophomore in the program history to score 1,000 career points after she sunk a 3-pointer just a couple minutes into the second half.
She reached the milestone in just 57 games.
The Gophers fell to Illinois 91-86.
The Gophers host No. 23-ranked Michigan at 7 p.m., Jan. 31.
