The lawyers who were part of the Anoka-Hennepin School District bullying case have been named Attorney of the Year 2012 by independent newspaper Minnesota Lawyer.
Paul Cady, the district’s General Counsel, was one of the attorneys who were part of the bullying case. The other attorneys being honored are Jeanette Bazis, Mark Johnson, Gregg Brooker, Ana Voss, Martin Chester, Zachary Stephenson, Celeste Culberth.
In 2011, six students who had attended Anoka-Hennepin schools filed a federal complaint and two lawsuits alleging bullying and harassment on the basis of sex. The two parties reached a mediated settlement and agreed to strengthen anti-bullying programs, policies, and procedures.
According to the district, Cady has served as the district’s General Counsel for 18 years and said the lawyers working on the case all wanted to ensure student safety and create a respectful learning environment.
