Two metro school districts are teaming up to redesign education in Minnesota.
Farmington and Spring Lake Park Schools applied for a new cutting edge program with the Minnesota Department of Education. The pilot project called "Innovation Zone" was approved in last year's legislative session. It requires school districts to partner in teams and create new unique ways to deliver education in exchange for the state lifting many mandates placed on local districts. There's no funding attached to the Innovation Zone program and it's unclear what it will look like.
Only one other school district has applied for the project, South-Central Education Consortium which includes Leroy-Ostrander. The Minnesota Department of Education has until April to approve the program.
