Minneapolis is looking into new ways to arrest people with illegal guns.
Minneapolis police seized about 700 illegal guns last year. Nearly half of those - 340 - were found on the city's north side.
A lot of times those guns are found in cars with two or three passengers who all deny the guns belong to them.
Council President Barb Johnson wants the city attorney to review current laws to see if police have more discretion to make arrests when an illegal gun is found in a car.
Johnson says prosecutors also have to get more aggressive and charge people with crimes when they lie on their application to obtain a gun.
