There's a delay in choosing the general contractor that will oversee construction of the new Vikings stadium, but it's not expected to delay the construction timetable.
The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority originally planned to announce the winning bidder at Friday's meeting. They approved a plan calling for 20 percent of construction contracts for the stadium to be awarded to woman and minority-owned businesses. But they put off naming the winning general contractor.
One of two contractors - Mortenson Construction of Minneapolis and Hunt Construction of Scottsdale, Ariz. - will get the bid to build the $975 million stadium.
The chairwoman of the sports facilities authority says the final decision will be made soon, but did not set a deadline.
She also said the authority is close to coming up with a stadium layout that will be acceptable to the University of Minnesota for baseball games. They've had a difficult coming up with a way to make baseball work in the new stadium, but are close to solving that issue.
