He burglarized on Sundays.

Police say that was part of the routine that Brian Stefan Williams, 41, of Minneapolis, used while burglarizing as many as 60 businesses across the metro.

Eden Prairie police, who placed surveillance on Williams for about a week, followed him Feb. 3 to an office building at 1000 County Road E in Shoreview, according to a Ramsey County criminal complaint.

Police then watched as Williams entered the building for about 20 minutes.

Once outside, police identified themselves to Williams, attempting to stop him with their guns pointed, the complaint said. Instead, Williams ran to his vehicle and fled.

He drove onto Lexington Avenue and eastbound onto Interstate 694, before exiting on Rice Street southbound, the charges said. There, unmarked squads boxed in his vehicle and police arrested him at gunpoint.

A pregnant woman, who is unidentified in the complaint, was in the passenger seat with Williams. She was taken to the hospital for unrelated pregnancy issues.

Police found $838 on Williams, the charges said. A screwdriver was in the driver's side door panel of his vehicle.

Back at the Shoreview office building, police found fresh pry marks on three office doors. One of the suites had $100 missing, police said.

Williams later told police that a man, known as "Butter," left cardboard in the building's front door to keep it open for him, according to the complaint. Williams planned to steal Apple products from the businesses, he told police.

Williams has been charged with felony counts of second-degree burglary, fleeing a police officer in a vehicle, and possession of burglary tools. As of Monday, he was being held in the Ramsey County Jail.

Police are still investigating Williams for the other burglaries, including two in St. Paul.

An Eden Prairie police spokeswoman declined to comment further on the other burglaries in the area because the investigation is ongoing.
