The White Bear Lake Area School District is promoting healthy eating through a new partnership.
The school district is collaborating with the YMCA, Health Partners, and Children’s Hospital to create the “yumPower School Challenge.” According to the district, the program encourages elementary students and teachers to eat more fruits and vegetables by tracking how many servings they get each week. Incentives are then awarded throughout the program.
The program started at Otter Lake Elementary, Vadnais Heights Elementary, and Hugo and Oneka Elementary in January. It will start at Birch Lake Elementary in March.
During the launch events, students play interactive games, join competitions, dance with Radio Disney, and learn about healthy eating.
According to the school district, the program is aimed at developing healthier students and combating childhood obesity.
