Six people who applied to be a Hennepin County sheriff's deputy are now out of the running for the job.
Hennepin County sheriff's office PIO Lisa Kiava said it came down to a policy about tattoos.
Two years ago Sheriff Rick Stanek changed the department's policy that prohibits new hires from having tattoos visible while in uniform.
"In a correctional setting, tattoos can be easily misinterpreted by the inmate population," said Kiava, "It's a safety issue."
Policies like this are not uncommon with law enforcement.
