The St. Louis Park Police Department issued a crime alert after a robber targeted his victims at Metro Transit bus stops.
According to police, the robberies typically have occurred between 6 and 7 a.m. at eastbound bus stops along Minnetonka Boulevard.
In the first case this week a robbery occurred near Minnetonka Boulevard and Colorado Avenue. In the second case, a person was robbed at Minnetonka Boulevard and Hampshire Avenue.
In both incidents, a suspect was described as a black man, about 5'5" tall, with a medium build, wearing a mask, dark hooded sweatshirt or a puffy style jacket. The man approached victims who were alone. He had a handgun, and demanded money and cell phones.
The search Thursday prompted St. Louis Park High School to put the building in lockdown from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 a.m., according to District Spokeswoman Sarah Thompson. She said the school opened in time for first period. "There were maybe 50 students impacted," said Thompson.
A $500 reward is being offered for tips that lead to an arrest in this case. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call 911 or the St. Louis Park Tip Line at 952-924-2165.
