Different cities are taking different approaches to clearing away the snow Friday.
In Minneapolis, they opted not to call a snow emergency. The city still has 36 plows out there working 12-hour, back-to-back shifts.
In St. Paul, a snow emergency goes into effect at 9 p.m. Friday night. St Paul had about 25-30 plows on the roads for most of Friday, but that number will grow to about 80 plows when the snow emergency goes into effect.
Most cities start with the main roads first, and were able to get start on the side streets by Friday afternoon.
