City leaders say there is much to celebrate in 2012, and they detailed the highlights in the 2012 Annual Report.

We went over the report, and found the following highlights:

Marketplace & Main, was completed, while two others, the redevelopment of the Mayon Plastics site and the BP gas station on Blake Road, got under way. Zoning approvals were given to Klodt development company in order to develop Gallery Flats, an upper-end apartment complex on the former Park Nicollet site.

The City was approved for $150,000 in grant funds from the Hennepin Youth Sports Grant and Twins Community Fund programs plus a new ballfield lighting system was donated by Hopkins Area Little League to upgrade field #3 at Maetzold Field to allow it to be used for Little League play.

And the Hopkins Police Department received a prestigious award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) for developing and partnering with the local elementary schools for a community policing project entitled “Operation Recess.” Officers spend time on the playgrounds during recess time playing all-inclusive games, preventing bullying and building a foundation of trust and respect.
