IBM is moving some of its manufacturing from Rochester to Mexico and New York. Full, part-time, and contract workers will be impacted.
An IBM spokesman tells KSTP sister station ABC 6 News, the manufacturer of the Power Systems, PureSystems and PureFlex Systems are being shifted to Guadalajara, Mexico.
The refurbishing of used machines is being moved to Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Some manufacturing will stay in Rochester, including the prototyping of new products through the Customer Solution Center and the final assembly of Blue Gene supercomputers.
IBM says the moves are to maximize efficiency and stay competitive. The company would not say how many workers will be impacted.
The changes will start later this year and should conclude by mid-2014.
