The Cadets of St. Thomas Academy (26-2-2)continued to validate their #1 ranking in the final Let’s Play Hockey poll, and their #1 seeding in the state tournament. They pummeled East Grand Forks (23-4-3), 11-0 in a Class A semifinal game.
Wyatt Schmidt led his team with four goals in the game, and now has five for the tournament. Matt Perry added five points on two goals and three assists, while Jack Stang had four assists.
The Cadets have scored 23 goals in their first two games, the tournament record for most goals in the tournament is 30, by Eveleth in 1945. The record for fewest goals against is zero, set by Centennial in 2004.
St. Thomas seeks their third consecutive title, and will face in a rematch of both 2011 and 2012 championship games, Hermantown.
East Grand Forks will play Breck School in the 3rd place game Saturday at 9 am.
