In one of the most thrilling third periods ever played at the Minnesota State Boys Hockey tournament, St Thomas Academy scored the game-winning goal with 6-seconds left to win the Class A Championship over Hermantown.
Cadet's sophomore Tommy Novak blistered a shot from between the circles into the top right corner to give the heavily-favored Cadets an improbable come-from-behind win.
Hermantown held 3-1 and 4-2 leads on the Cadets, but were unable to hang on as the Cadets scored the only three goals of the third period.
It's the fourth straight year Hermantown has made it to the Class A Championship game and lost, with the last three coming to the Cadets.
St Thomas Academy becomes just the fourth team in Minnesota high school hockey history to win 3 state championships, joining Eveleth, International Falls and Bloomington Jefferson.
The Cadets depart Class A next season, moving up to play in Class AA.
