A gas leak Wednesday forced a neighborhood evacuation near Lake Harriet Community School and some parents at the school were not notified about the delays.

Minneapolis Public Schools notified parents of children who live in the area of the evacuation. MPS told parents they would have pick up there children at another location. But, parents of students who take the bus were not notified of the delay when buses were rerouted because of the gas leak.

Some children were an hour late getting home and parents were calling Lake Harriet Community School to see where their children were and why they were not home.

Minneapolis Public Schools use a phone message and email as their primary contact with parents. MPS does use other social media as an extension of those messaging systems but the phone and email go out first.

MPS says it has apologized to parents for the delayed communication and they will review everything that happened after the gas leak and fix any problems that might exist.
