The Radisson Blu hotel opened Friday and more than half of its 500 rooms are already booked.

This is the only hotel that's connected to the Mall of America with a skyway on the second floor.

With a rainy day outside, it might be the perfect excuse for folks to have a shopping spree this weekend.

The new hotel markets itself as an upscale option for international travelers as well as a get-away for Minnesotans.

The hotel includes your basic amenities such as a pool and workout room, but there is also a high-end restaurant inside and 24-hour room service.

According to the Bloomington Visitors and Convention Bureau even though there are already many hotels in the area; on busy weekends with sports tournaments, all 8,000 hotel rooms in Bloomington can fill up so another hotel option is welcome to boost tourism.

The hotel was built by Minnesota based Carlson and Mortenson Construction for $137.5 million.

The average room should run $125-$150 a night.

The Mall of America expects to see more hotels coming soon that will be attached to the mall.

Another hotel will be breaking ground in September on the north side of the mall, this one possibly with a water park.
