A bill to decide who will get pieces of the collapsed 35W bridge cleared its first hurdle.

The Senate Transportation and Public Safety Committee passed it Monday. It would create a "pecking order" for who can claim the pieces for free.

The Minnesota Historical Society would get the first chance to claim pieces, followed by survivors, transportation agencies and college engineering programs.
