Classes will be closed for the remainder of the day at New Prague public schools.
The middle school went into lockdown early Wednesday after a reported threat, which authorities believe was a hoax. All students are safe, according to a Scott County Sheriff's deputy.
At about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, students at the high school and middle school were released from school, according to New Prague Area Schools. Elementary students were being bused to their homes, or the middle school depending on if their parents were available at home.
District officials said they were canceling school to relieve parents' anxiety about their children's safety. The "reason for canceling school for today is to relieve parent anxiety and assure parents that all of children are safe," according to a district statement.
Classes are scheduled to resume Thursday.
New Prague is about 45 minutes southwest of the metro.
The school district has more than 3,800 students. The district includes three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.
