A man, who was killed when a light-rail train hit his vehicle, has been identified as Francisco Antonio Sanchez-Andrade.

Andrade, 49, of Minneapolis, died of multiple blunt force injuries caused by the crash, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner reported Sunday.

Minneapolis police and the Metro Transit Police are investigating the crash, which happened Friday night at East 26th Street and Hiawatha Avenue just before 6:30 p.m., according to the medical examiner.

After the crash, Bruce Howard of Metro Transit says a northbound train collided with a westbound car. It appeared that the car was attempting to go under the crossing gate arm, he said. The train pushed the car about 500- to 600 feet north of the intersection.

The train was full of passengers at the time of the crash, but no one on the train was hurt.

After the crash, buses were used to move light-rail passengers between the Franklin Avenue station and 46th Street station. Trains were operating normally on the rest of the line.
