Fans were gearing up Saturday in St. Paul for the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's final championship game as we know it.
Next year, the new National Collegiate Hockey Conference is coming to the Twin Cities with a new championship tournament at the Target Center in Minneapolis. The NCHC has eight teams including St. Cloud State, University of Minnesota-Duluth and neighboring University of North Dakota. Minnesota and Wisconsin are headed to the Big Ten. The WCHA Tournament in St. Paul brings in millions of dollars every year it is played here. And, the head of the new NCHC says he expects his conference tournament to add 4-million dollars when it fills the Target Center next spring.
