Taxi Driver Forced Into Trunk May Help 'Cab Cams' Effort

Minneapolis Police are investigating after a Rainbow Taxi Cab driver said he was robbed and then forced into the trunk of his car.

The robbery could add momentum to growing calls for the Minneapolis City Council to adopt an ordinance requiring cab cams, surveillance cameras similar to those already mandated in convenience stores, tobacco shops, and liquor stores.

The alleged incident happened shortly after 5 a.m. Monday in the 2900 block of Hennepin Avenue South in Uptown, according to police.

Police say the victim, Todd O'Reilley, 42, told them he was able to get out of the trunk by using the emergency release valve inside; he was not hurt.

"(I'm) not as angry as I was before," O'Reilley said in an interview. "You have to let it go sometimes and keep going."

Anyone with information should call Minneapolis police.
