In Minnesota, we take pride in our smart kids; lawmakers say investing in our earliest learners will help us all succeed.
House Speaker Paul Thissen is one DFL lawmaker pushing for funding of all-day, every day kindergarten as part of the state budget. The lawmakers say it will also help us close one of the worst achievement gaps in the nation.
"We know it gets us the biggest bang for our buck; we know it makes our families stronger. We know it makes our economy stronger. We know that it helps our kids do the very best that they can do,” Thissen said.
Earlier this month, education leaders announced a new initiative to make sure at least 90 percent of our students are graduating by the year 2020.
