Veterans say there's little incentive to retire in Minnesota.

That's because lawmakers tell us Minnesota is one of only a handful of states that does not offer tax breaks on military pensions.

Retired veterans say the state is losing retirees to states like Wisconsin, which does not tax military pensions.

Rep. Bob Dettmer, a Republican from Forest Lake, is sponsoring legislation that would make military pensions tax exempt.

Critics are concerned the legislation will cost the state much needed tax receipts.

However, Dettmer and other veterans say luring more retirees to Minnesota will have a positive impact on the economy over the long term.

Similar legislation has failed in the past.

However, Dettmer's legislation will be heard in a key committee next week.
