Rain, sleet and snow made travel difficult in the metro Thursday morning.
The State Patrol said they have handled at least 180 crashes as of 10 a.m.
A number of ramps were closed due to vehicles losing control.
Crews were out trying to stay ahead of the wintry mix Wednesday evening into the morning.
Minnesota Department of Transportation spokeswoman Bobbie Dahlke said the freezing rain made it difficult to pre-treat the roads overnight.
Dahlke urged drivers to take it slow and leave room for snow plows Thursday morning.
MnDOT said travel was not advised in southern Minnesota.
