You may have to dig a little deeper into your wallet to pay for your favorite beer. Some DFL lawmakers want to raise the alcohol tax.

The DFL says the price of a bottle of a beer would jump 7 cents under the increase. Beer makers like Summit Brewing say the tax hike would be devastating to their business. House Speaker Paul Thissen says the alcohol tax hasn't been raised in a quarter century and believes the beer industry wouldn't be hurt by the increase.

Beer drinkers wouldn't be the only ones digging deeper. In the house bill smokers would pay $1.60 more per pack. Also a bottle of wine would jump 47 cents and a bottle of liquor would go up a $1.58.
