The Minnesota Senate pushed a bill forward that could give some people a second chance.

It would ban employers from asking about a person's criminal history on job applications.

Lawmakers say it would stop applications from automatically being thrown out if the box is checked.

Employers could still look into criminal history, but not until later in the hiring process.

The bill dubbed 'Ban the Box' by its supporters, passed 44 to 16.
