Anoka County officials are encouraging residents to check the safety of their private well water during “Well Water Wise” week.

The 14th annual promotion is sponsored by the Anoka County Community Health and Environmental Services Department and takes place May 6-10. Well test kits will be available at various city offices or at the Anoka County Government Center.

Normally, the samples can be submitted for analysis from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Mondays or from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. During the promotional week, hours are 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Friday.

According to the county, purpose of the promotion is to make residents aware of the concentration of nitrate-nitrogen and the presence of coliform bacteria in their drinking water.
